Explore one of Malta’s oldest villages on FAA cultural tour on Saturday 15th October.

option-2

Located in the southwest of Malta, Qrendi is rich in ancient buildings and atmospheric streetscapes. Heritage lovers are invited to join this FAA cultural walk when Qrendi Mayor David Schembri will be taking us on a three-hour tour of Qrendi’s heritage gems, including the Maqluba sinkhole and the nearby chapel dedicated to St Matthew which will be opened specially for the FAA group. The tour will proceed to the Ġnien tal-Kmand (Commander’s Garden) set up by Sir Alexander Ball, and visit the Santa Katerina chapel, where expert art restorer and Bighi lecturer David Frank Bugeja will talk about Qrendi’s art treasures.

Other Qrendi heritage landmarks that we will see include St Anna Chapel, Salvatur Chapel, the Santa Katerina windmill and Qrendi Parish Church, ending up at the Torri tal-Kavalier, built in the late medieval or early Hospitaller period, one of the oldest surviving towers in Malta and the only octagonal one. Being privately owned, this tower is not open to the public so we are delighted to offer our guests this unique opportunity to enjoy tea/coffee, sandwiches and cakes in the garden of what has been described as “one of the most interesting examples of architectural development” in Malta.
